ITS: Intelligence and Knowledge

December 6, 2009

Kris Chronicles
Channeled by Serge J. Grandbois and Transcribed by Ellen Gilbert (Kwaa’Ji)
Recorded in Toronto, Canada on Sunday, December 6, 2009

Roll Call: Serge (Joseph), Mark (Philip), Ellen (Kwaa’Ji), Jonathan (Rajnanda), Alan (Regoronn), Tom (Desiré), Alyssa, Stephen, and Barbara

(7:47 PM)

KRIS: Now we trust that you are…. does anyone care to finish?

MARK: (Laughs) Comfortable?

KRIS: Indeed! And we thank you for your…

ELLEN: Consideration.

KRIS: Indeed!

MARK: Wow, we know you so well, we can finish your sentences!

(Laughter)

ELLEN: We must be part Brahm!

MARK: (Chuckling)

KRIS: Can anyone define – without having to Google it – can anyone define “intelligence”? Knowledge.

MARK: (Jokingly) D’oh!

ELLEN: Hmm… what would be a good definition?… Cognitive functioning?

MARK: “I are smart”?

JONATHAN: Does anyone else feel as though their definition of intelligence has changed a lot? (Chuckling)

ELLEN: That’s a good point. Intelligence is… I think how you gather knowledge, maybe.

MARK: Well, there’s a difference obviously between artificial intelligence so something that is intelligent is also sentient, so knowledge of self, self-aware…. but obviously it’s larger…

JONATHAN: I like the word “perceptive.”

KRIS: Perhaps we can gently guide you in this area, and these we define in such a manner, we describe in such a manner, as to give you perhaps even a completely different consideration for what you normally interpret as intelligence and knowledge. Now the one thing in your favor is that you have been learning in these recent weeks and months to consider that knowledge of things in and of themselves is simply an accumulation of information and not necessarily knowledge.

Knowledge as it is transcends the superficialities of temporary, intermittent things and has more to do with Self and soul and transcendence than anything else. And the proper use of intelligence in line with knowledge as we view it can also be broadened tremendously in such a way that it will entice you to redefine what you thought you knew about intelligence and knowledge together. Does that meet your approval?

ELLEN: Mmhm.

MARK: Indeed!

KRIS: Indeed then. Now, firstly, we consider humility to be knowledge. And this is important because the process of knowledge is often misunderstood and intelligence and knowledge does not have any relation to the kinds of display of knowledge often reflected in “Jeopardy” or other game shows. That is just an accumulation of information, and if one considers the process as we will describe it, then it is that much easier to approach the absolute truth as it exists. And in this particular case, humility is best described in terms of not necessarily seeking out nor being anxious of receiving and seeking honors by others, meaning being prideful of one’s accumulation of knowledge and information. In so many ways, the material conception of life is often including the receiving of accolades, fame and so on, for the things that one has stuffed into his or her brain, do you follow?

ELLEN: Yes.

JONATHAN: Yes.

KRIS: Now there is nothing wrong indeed with being knowledgeable in so many areas, but when a point is made in particular to be flashy, as in making certain that others know that you are full of information and those who are not so versed in information are perhaps considered less, that in particular does tend to numb one’s sensitivities, not only to the conditions of others, but to one’s own condition. And it begins a game of acquiring information for the sake of one’s own prowess and as such does interfere with the cultivation of a sincere spiritual quest. Does that make sense to you?

ELLEN: Oh yeah.

KRIS: Another aspect of true knowledge is pridelessness, which goes in line with humility. Though there are many who make great claims about how lacking in pride they are, one should likely consider such an individual slightly tongue-in-cheek. Do you follow?

STEPHEN: Yes.

KRIS: And how many individuals do you find that may even insist that they are the most prideless person anyone would ever meet?

MARK: And proud of it!

KRIS: Indeed. That in itself is quite contradictory and that also undermines one’s true quest for understanding matters of a spiritual nature as well as their relationship with Source or Self. Many such individuals might even advertise themselves as great leaders in religious or spiritual circles and they often find that hordes of individuals, legions, may flock to them, but then again, what do you think this reflects? We have mentioned this but once or twice, but it may be worth repeating.

MARK: Those that proclaim usually have the least to proclaim about.

KRIS: We also suggested on one or two occasions that one time someone was asked “Why are there so many cheap teachers and gurus that come to the West?” Do you remember what the reply was?

ELLEN: “Cheap disciples.”

KRIS: Indeed, cheap disciples, cheap followers. They want a quick band-aid solution, a drive-through type of revelation and enlightenment that for all intents and purposes, is likely filled with a great amount of hot air and these things are usually filled with prideful individuals. There is a time and a place to have a certain kind of pridefulness and not necessarily in such matters.

The next item is nonviolence. This is an interesting aspect of knowledge, true knowledge. What does nonviolence generally mean out in the masses, the mass perception?

ALYSSA: Peaceful protest?

MARK: Well, out in the public, generally speaking, they’re usually considered weak.

ELLEN: It means you do no harm to anyone.

KRIS: Indeed, that is our own definition. Thus, in this case nonviolence means not putting any others in distress. No harm. And one of the greatest possible services that one may be able to render to others is to assist others in elevating others to a platform of actual spiritual knowledge and in this action you find the greatest practice of nonviolence because it basically displays the spreading of spiritual knowledge in a practicing way. And in this way you are assisting others to also take themselves out of distressing situations and enabling others to extricate themselves from their own material entanglements. Does that make sense to you?

ELLEN: Right, it’s information, it’s knowledge that isn’t forced down anyone’s throat either. A lot of learning, a lot of learning of so-called knowledge, IS forced onto people.

KRIS: That is correct. And the next item –

ELLEN: You wouldn’t normally –

KRIS: Indeed, do go on.

ELLEN: You wouldn’t normally consider that violent, but it is. It’s a violence in a way… it’s…

KRIS: It is a transgression. Many pseudo-religions and spiritualities often tend to make the others feel as if in their belonging to anything but their own group, they are practicing ignorance. But such a group and its teachers are definitely not bonafide, because one should accept all peoples in all backgrounds from all conditions and situations in life in order to share with them spiritually viable and enlightening information that can assist the individual to pull themselves out of their entanglements from material situations so that they can understand that they are spirit-souls. And with that kind of knowledge they can open doors to a brand new existence. Do you follow?

ELLEN: Mmhm.

KRIS: Next item then, is tolerance. And this is often an area that is replete with individuals that are filled with false tolerance. Tolerance in itself is a very wide field and only one who is generally… how do we say?… situated, well situated in the cultivation of spiritual knowledge, such an individual will be naturally tolerant. It does not mean that you have to practice being the doormat but it does mean that sometimes individuals will react adversely – initially – because they sometimes do not understand the value of what you might be offering them; just like a mother or grandmother tolerates many things from the child because they understand that the child is growing up, and they will set up boundaries to assist the child to grow up with good direction. In the meantime, they will tolerate all the childish things that come with childhood. Does that make sense to you?

ELLEN: Mmhm.

JONATHAN: Yeah.

KRIS: Another item of knowledge and intelligence is simplicity. Simplicity, here in our approach, also includes honesty. And you will notice in many instances, even with diplomacy, truth is not necessarily revealed. The most simple approach is always truthfulness. Simplicity also has other far-reaching aspects that can be made to streamline one’s own life in a very simple manner: living simply. And in this way simple living and high thinking go hand-in-hand because there is less complications. Does that make sense to you?

ELLEN: Oh yes, absolutely, being dishonest makes things complicated.

KRIS: Indeed.

ELLEN: That’s why truth is so much more simple, yeah.

KRIS: And it is quite evident in many life situations that lack of simplicity and honesty lead to so many complications that at times it seems as if it is never-ending.

ELLEN: You get tangled up.

KRIS: And it takes away from one’s own path of liberation. So there is entanglement.

JONATHAN: The same would apply with authenticity. That in itself is simplicity because it’s our natural state.

KRIS: Indeed. Cleanliness is also extremely important. We mentioned this recently. And cleanliness, whether you consider it merely a belief or not is irrelevant. Cleanliness, both externally and internally does function towards advancement in spiritual life. Externally you understand that – bathing, clean living conditions and so on and so forth – but what about internal cleanliness? We are not talking enemas!

(Group chuckling)

What do you think that would pertain to?

ELLEN: Certain foods are more conducive to clarity of mind.

MARK: But also clean thoughts.

JONATHAN: Dispelling illusion.

KRIS: (Humorously) Now, we are certain that by “clean thoughts” Philip (Mark) doesn’t necessarily mean the opposite of dirty thoughts?

MARK: No.. (Chuckling)… but pure.

KRIS: There is a certain amount of maintaining a clean consciousness, an uncluttered, unfettered consciousness.

MARK: Disciplined. A disciplined mind.

KRIS: Indeed, which also is free from many distractions, free from clutter, impediments to one’s own spiritual growth. And the progression of which is an enriched life all around. So by maintaining a nice, clean consciousness and a nice clean physical environment and one’s own body, you actually do feel much better, do you not?

ELLEN: Mmhm.

KRIS: That is why in part we gave you several different chants that function at assisting the… cleaning, if you like, the cleaning of consciousness. Another important aspect of intelligence and knowledge is steadiness and self-control, which goes hand-in-hand with maintaining a nice level of consciousness.

ELLEN: Did you say “steadiness”?

KRIS: Indeed. Steadiness, or steadfastness, and self-control. These two items also assist in the maintaining of a nice level of consciousness, of self-awareness, and it does propel one on their spiritual journey. It generates momentum and assists in not so easily being derailed, if you like. Do you follow?

ELLEN: Mmhm.

KRIS: Steadiness includes determination. If one has no determination, steadiness will certainly not be very prominent, and if one desires to make spiritual progress in their lives, it does require that determination that comes from steadiness or steadfastness and self-control. Self-control is not a means to beat the self into submission, but it simply means that one will not so easily accept distractions that might actually be detrimental to one’s own spiritual path. That in itself is real, true renunciation, especially when it comes to the senses and what they require, the service they often insist upon which often leads to sometimes wanton sense gratification. And once you do that, it is often very difficult to extricate oneself again.

Some may often proclaim that sense gratification to the max is the way to go because it fulfills something in the here and now, NOW. We are certain that all of you have recognized to one degree or another that pleasing, serving or gratifying the senses usually means that the senses are not so easily satisfied. They want more and they want more of it now, and that can become a powerful distraction, even irritation to one’s own spiritual journey. And of all the senses – we have mentioned this very briefly in the recent past – of all the senses, the one considered the most difficult to bring under control is the tongue. Not only for tasting and eating, but also sometimes for speaking, if for no other reason than to have vibrations on the tongue. Do you follow?

ELLEN: Yes.

KRIS: So by exercising a certain amount of self-control in this area, especially with the tongue, all other senses easily follow suit, especially with the chanting that we have offered you. It does not mean that you cut the senses off, that you deprive them, but simply know that a certain amount of self-control is a very important element in any kind of spiritual journey or quest. And without that, there is almost no question of having a spiritual journey or quest. Does that make sense to you?

ELLEN: Mmhm.

JONATHAN: Yeah.

KRIS: Indeed. The next aspect of intelligence and knowledge in this area is absence of false ego. We have defined false ego, the misidentified ego, as being strictly associated with the bodily conception of life, meaning that you believe that self is the body. When you understand that you are not the body but that instead you are Aham Brahmasmi, you are SOUL – the self is the soul, the true person – then that is the beginnings of manifestations of your true ego.

That wording, Aham Brahmasmi: “I am Brahman, I am spirit,” this “I am” is the true Self and that is how these spiritual journeys and quests evolve. There are many philosophers and so-called teachers who claim that one has to give up ego because ego means identity. How can you give up that which you are? What is necessary to understand here is that in truth this relates only to the misidentified or false ego, meaning identification with the body. That is not who you are. Does that make sense to you?

ELLEN: Mmhm.

KRIS: Another important aspect as well, in terms of true knowledge, true intelligence, is the recognition that, in line with the previous statement about false ego in relation to the bodily conception of life is that the stages of the body – meaning birth, death, old age and disease – one’s understanding and perception of these stages again is related only to the bodily conception of life. And because you are able to observe and understand that there IS birth, death, old age and disease, shows that you are not the body. Otherwise, you would not be able to perceive this. Does that make sense to you?

JONATHAN: Yeah, I like that, Kris.

KRIS: Indeed. This is also part and parcel of true knowledge and intelligence, this understanding. And this follows that though one may have love for one’s children or wife or husband, home, and so on, one can be even-minded in the relationship one has with all of these, including pleasant and unpleasant events. So the passage of time, the various natures of pleasant and unpleasant events, the path of birth, death, old age and disease in relation to the body, one can see these and understand one’s own position in relation to all of this and not be disturbed that one is even-minded in the face of all of these things and the processes of physical life. Does that make sense to you?

JONATHAN: Yeah.

KRIS: Thus, even though one is part of the world, in another sense, it is still possible to exercise a certain amount of healthy detachment from the generality of the masses, that one is not so willing to succumb to the “sheep principle.” Do you understand? In other words, that you exercise your natural heritage as the soul to also be able to see that the body itself does not necessarily need to disturb your mind, to disturb you, though it might at times be unpleasant when it has challenges, difficulties, illnesses and other situations. You do not have a freak-out – that you are able to see it equipoised in your platform as the soul. Does that make sense to you?

JONATHAN: Yes.

ELLEN: Makes sense.

KRIS: Indeed. These are but small principles that have powerful influences in one’s spiritual life. All of these and there is still more; and that is that the accepting of the importance of self-realization and the philosophical search for the absolute – these two: the importance of self-realization and philosophically searching for the absolute truth – give meaning to everything we have described to you up to this point; puts everything into context and gives it importance in such a way that you can flourish. Does that make sense to you?

JONATHAN: Yes, it does.

KRIS: (Pause) All of this culminates in something very specific. Joseph will supply the Sanskrit writing. For the immediate moment, let us offer you then a very nice Sanskrit which may put all of this in context in a proper relationship in regards to realization of absolute truth. Does that make sense to you?

ELLEN: Mmhm.

KRIS: Indeed. And what might be very nice is for us to offer each word and you repeat it. The first word is “Vadanti.” Thus it will go as follows: Vadanti. All together now: Vadanti.

GROUP: Vadanti.

KRIS: The second word is “Tat.”

GROUP: Tat.

[Kris continues until the entire phrase is uttered and repeated by the group.]

KRIS: So it goes as follows: Vadanti tat tattva-vidas tattva? yaj jñ?nam advayam. Which means: “Those who are actually knowers of the Absolute Truth know that the Self is realized in three different phases as Brahman or light; as Param?tm? or the Divine in the heart; and as Bhagav?n, meaning the Supreme Truth.” This, then, would be your All That Is.

MARK: What was the third one?

KRIS: Bhagavan.

MARK: Thank you.

KRIS: Understanding this small concept, you yourselves as those who are beginning to know, the knowers of the Absolute Truth, know that the Self is realized in three different phases: as Brahman, or the light; as Param Atma, or the Divine spark in the heart; and as Bhagavan, the Supreme Truth or All That Is. Do you follow?

ELLEN: Yes.

KRIS: So this as we have outlined is actually quite scientific in its own way because it delineates a progression, culminating with this Vadanti tat tattva-vidas tattva? yaj jñ?nam advayam. All of what we have described so far culminates in this. This is the nectar, if you like, of the developing of all of these nice qualities pertaining to true intelligence and knowledge. Do you follow?

JONATHAN: Yes.

KRIS: And you do not have to accept what we have said merely because we have said it. You can test it. You can put this to the test and you will find that following this small principle in this way actually produces big payoff and everyone wants their small investment to give big payoff, do they not?

(Group chuckling)

And it can be that simple and that is indeed the beginnings of cultivating a very nice spiritual life, a very nice adventure in consciousness over and above anything related merely to the ordinary understandings of intelligence and knowledge. Knowing how many times Paris Hilton has dropped her drawers is not knowledge at all! In fact, it is very common, is it not? The soul in that body is a different matter, but the personality as it is displayed is quite something. We believe you would say it is a real piece of work!

(Group laughter)

So all of you have different ways to put these things into effect and this will affect your lives in a very potent way, and you can see from one day to the next, from one week to the next, from one month to the next already you have put so many things into practice, because that is the only way you can have a true and solid foundation is it not? Or is it simply by listening and reading that all of these things come to you? We do not believe so.

So by the cultivation of these things, you can actually see where you are on your journey. You can gauge it and you do not have to feign any of it nor force any of it. By acting naturally in this progression you will see for yourselves that these things seem to appear all on their own. You do not have to imitate anyone. Simply allow these things to show from within Self. That is how you tell. We are certain that many, if not most of you have already noticed some things along these lines, have you not?

ELLEN: Oh, yeah.

KRIS: And all of these qualities pertaining to intelligence and knowledge in this way pertaining to absolute truth, where do you think they come from?

ELLEN: Soul knowledge.

JONATHAN: Mmhm.

KRIS: More. And it is a very small word.

STEPHEN: God?

KRIS: You might say that. Shall we channel Vanna White?

(Laughter)

You have ten seconds. The only letter we will provide you with is ‘V.’

MARK: Can I buy a vowel?

ELLEN: (Laughing)

KRIS: Indeed. There are two. Which do you want?

MARK: An ‘E.’

KRIS: Indeed. So that leaves only two letters.

ELLEN: I’m stumped.

MARK: V, E or E, V….

JONATHAN: Is this Sanskrit?

KRIS: One more hint: V and E are the last two.

MARK: Love.

ALYSSA: Love! Love!

KRIS: Indeed! It is obvious that you all need to listen more to the Beatles!

(Laughter)

Indeed. Because without that very last quality, which is first, foremost, and uppermost in the Self, in the soul, your true identity, these other qualities that we have described would only be artificially manifested and would have no lasting impact and provide no potency whatsoever. And if you have not noticed by now it is high time that you do that all of these things, including the chanting, the mantras, and so on and so forth, all of these descriptions of the qualities of the soul, the qualities of intelligence and knowledge in terms of absolute truth, all of these are natural extensions or expansions of that greatest quality of all: Love. Why is that? Is love nothing more than something you need to detach from as well, like some spiritual groups might claim?

ELLEN: It’s foundational. Love is the foundation of the universe.

KRIS: Indeed. And even more than that.

ALYSSA: The absolute truth.

KRIS: Indeed, and why is it an absolute truth? Because All That Is, Bhagavan, the Absolute Truth, has it in unlimited capacities, therefore everything else manifest and unmanifest rests upon it like pearls on a string. That is the reason of consciousness. How does that grab you?

ELLEN: It grabs me very well.

JONATHAN: In the heart.

KRIS: You are all part and parcel of All That Is. Do we agree upon that?

GROUP: Yes.

KRIS: So you display, manifest, live love because it is present within All That Is. You display it up to a certain point. All That Is displays it in unlimited, unfathomable quantities and capacities. It could even be said that All That Is spares no expense in ways to remind you and assist you in reconnecting with it or Source, if you call it, but still, one cannot force another along those lines. It must come freely. The giving must be free. Do you follow?

ELLEN: Mmhm.

KRIS: Any inquiries along these lines?

ELLEN: You once used the term “Eros” instead of love and I think you were talking about basically the same concept.

KRIS: Indeed.

ELLEN: Is there a difference in the terminology?

KRIS: Only in the sense that Eros also includes a certain vitality that is often considered absent with the simple term “love.” That within Eros there is also a certain kind of momentum. Unfortunately, it is also ascribed erotic, sexual connotations that in these terms simply do not exist at that particular layer of existence. But the vitality, the momentum certainly exists, so Eros is a different representation of love.

ELLEN: So Eros would sort of be the attraction… movement part of love, whereas love itself is sort of a deep well… of…

KRIS: That is suitable.

ELLEN: …unlimited…

KRIS: And as we suggested, the unfortunate aspect of the mundane interpretation of Eros relates also to the sexual, whilst at those deeper layers of the soul, the sexual does not exist, but the vigor, the vitality, the enthusiasm of giving oneself and of giving OF oneself, is certainly very powerful.

ELLEN: Mmhm.

KRIS: It is, in many respects, the very foundation, the very wellspring of your universe because that particular type of transcendental Eros is the cause of, in a way, the cause of your physical reality. You create your reality experiences within this greater context, this greater absolute truth. Outside of that context, the physical potential is created by All That Is’s potency of Eros. Such a powerful, driving love for each part and parcel that may want to explore its own journey is therefore given of the opportunity to do so. The only drawback that eventually becomes recognized – even if only after millions of lifetimes – is that the soul, that part and parcel of All That Is, may eventually recognize that its true source of joy was in union WITH All That Is and not necessarily apart from. Do you follow that?

ELLEN: Mmhm. I think so.

KRIS: We understand that some may say “Yes, but one is always part of All That Is!” Yes, one is always eternally part of All That Is, but when one’s consciousness is drawn in an opposite direction, then one deliberately shuts off All That Is. Do you follow?

JONATHAN: Mmhm.

KRIS: It is like saying “Do not bother me today, All That Is, I am busy trying to connect with you! How can one connect with you when you always bother me, All That Is!” Now does that make sense? It does and it does not. So all of this is to impress upon you that all of these qualities of the soul, qualities of intelligence and knowledge culminate in that realization. Do you follow?

ELLEN: Now, all of this that you’ve been describing tonight, is this what’s embedded in the myth of Shiva and Shakti?

KRIS: Mmmm…. the interactions, the myths of Shiva and Shakti, are in themselves represented yet in a higher form in the Vedic literature with the interactions between that which is called Radha and Krishna. *[See footnote]

ELLEN: Okay.

KRIS: Any other inquiries?

STEPHEN: Kris, I was wondering, and I don’t know if I can formulate the question, but when we are manifesting love and we’re perceiving others that may be in need or suffering and there’s a tension because, you know, we can’t help everybody, and it’s almost like a pain in the heart. Is that at some level… you know, we’re wanting to help them and we know at some level we have all these resources and we can alleviate suffering, but at this focus level we can’t for everybody in all situations. I know I perceive that at times as a pain, because you want to help and you just can’t.

KRIS: It does create a kind of angst or anxiety, does it not?

STEPHEN: It does.

KRIS: And you may find that the truly self-realized, enlightened individual may relate to this very well. It doesn’t mean that necessarily you are on that platform, but you have an inkling that such an enlightened, self-realized being has an affinity for this particular state, for all living things, wanting so desperately for all to experience that reconnection and at the same time knowing that it is a physical impossibility to do this FOR others, but one may desire it.

Thus, such an individual may give a benediction or a boon such that those beings would find their own path as quickly as possible. It is not about judging their situations. It is more about understanding that each living being, each soul, has a natural propensity to desire these things. Though they may seek happiness, they may not realize that they are seeking long-term, permanent, eternal happiness, but that which is temporary. So the sage in this way has a desire that everyone recognize the true nature of happiness and how they can have it. Does that answer your inquiry?

STEPHEN: Yes, very nice. Thank you.

KRIS: Indeed. And at the same time, the sage does not necessarily bemoan their situations nor create attachments for these things, and for these creatures, for these living beings. All of these living entities will eventually find their way. Do you follow?

STEPHEN: I think so, yeah.

KRIS: Indeed. Therefore, we will return Joseph to you and we thank you for your lovely consideration in the light of true knowledge and intelligence. And may all of your moments be filled with joy.

ALL: Thank you, Kris.

[Session ends at 8:55 PM]

* Radha-Krishna, A Divine Love

The relationship of Radha and Krishna is the embodiment of love, passion and devotion. Radha’s passion for Krishna symbolizes the soul’s intense longing and willingness for the ultimate unification with God. Shri Krishna is the soul of Radha and Radha is definitely the soul of Shri Krishna. She is the undivided form of Shri Krishna. She will remain a mystery unless one can know her inexpressible divine elements. She is worshipper as well as his deity to be worshipped. The whole universe material and spiritual is the creation of Shri Radha – Krishna. Shri Radha is the presiding Goddess of Shri Krishna. The Paramatma – supreme Lord – is subservient to her. In her absence Shri Krishna does not exist.
Radha is almost always depicted alongside Krishna and features prominently within the theology of today’s Gaudiya Vaishnava religion, which regards Radha as the original Goddess or Shakti. Radha is also the principal object of worship in the Nimbarka Sampradaya, as Nimbarka, the founder of the tradition, declared that Radha and Krishna together constitute the absolute truth.

Shri Krishna is not only the ultimate object of all love, but also is the topmost enjoyer of all loving relationships. Therefore, in the dynamic and expanding form of Krishna, He has unlimited desires to enjoy spiritual loving relationships or pastimes, known as lila. To do this, He expands Himself into the dual form of Krishna and Radha, His eternal consort and topmost devotee. In other words, Radha is the feminine aspect of Lord Krishna and is non-different from Krishna, but together (both the masculine and feminine aspects). They fulfill the purpose of engaging in sublime loving pastimes to exhibit supremely transcendental loving exchanges.
